Following on from our last FF edition, where we shared with you the latest from our Knowledge Forum Trauma with this edition we want to draw your attention to the most up to date publications from our Knowledge Forum Deformity.

The group has formed an international consensus for the appropriate evaluation and treatment of adults with spinal deformity (ASD Consensus), and for the optimal surgical care for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS Consensus).

Both studies are based on the results of a modified Delphi process where international expert consensus was obtained from approximately 50 experienced deformity surgeons from more than 20 countries.

“The studies provide the AOSpine community and the spine deformity patient with new information to guide an evidence-based approach to optimal care”, study investigator Dr Sigurd Berven said.

“There is so much information out there these days. Consensus papers offer an extra layer of empirical opinion-leader-knowledge to literature reviews, which are, by definition, outdated”, said AOSpine Knowledge Forum Deformity Chairperson Prof Marinus de Kleuver.

Both articles published by the group are available on open access below.
