The FacultyFocus newsletter features specially selected information for you as AOTrauma faculty.

AOTrauma, AOCMF, and AOSpine have created several Touch Surgery modules with simulations of selected surgical procedures. Chitra Subramaniam, Chief Learning Officer in AONA, provides a short introduction to Touch Surgery simulations and the place of simulator-based training in resident education.

AO has expanded its educational offerings on fracture care in elderly patients with updates and new educational formats including a second version of the course program with dissections on anatomical specimens and an innovative hospital-based educational activity.

The new curriculum on periprosthetic fracture management has been approved for rollout during Davos Courses 2018 and worldwide in 2019. Developed by a committee of four experts from both orthopedic trauma and reconstructive surgery, the course Comprehensive Periprosthetic Fracture Management of the Hip and Knee addresses both fracture fixation and revision arthroplasty.

Ethical Medtech, an industry self-governing body, has announced new rules for the support of educational events. These rules define for which kind of educational events industry may purchase vouchers. AO has contacted MedTech to discuss this new rule, and in particular its application at the masters level.

With the Davos Courses kicking off in a couple of days, this issues’ 10 tips focus on how to run a practical exercise effectively. If you are involved in this year’s teaching and learning in Davos, I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Thank you all for helping the next generation of trauma surgeons to provide safe and effective care to their patients and to keep learning from each other.

Best wishes,
