Welcome to the first issue of AOTrauma’s FacultyFocus in 2019

The FacultyFocus newsletter features specially selected information for you as AOTrauma faculty.

What can AO Surgery Reference usage data tell us about educational needs? Together with Fergal Monsell, general editor of the pediatric modules, the AO Education Institute in collaboration with CID recently conducted a study to explore this question.

The AOTEC members reconfirmed their previous decision for global consistent data collection for all AOTrauma events. The standardized pre- and post-event reports have been made mandatory by the AOTEC and can be ordered by the local course organizer in AOs event management system. Read more about the pre- and post-event reports.

The AO Foundation Board approved the initiative to make the Faculty Education Program (FEP) available not only to its clinical divisions, but also to external customers. Davor Vidic provides an update on the status of the roll-out of the FEP and invites you to let him know if you think the FEP can benefit your home institution.

As a teacher, understanding and being able to affect learners’ motivation are important skills needed to effectively facilitate learning and change in clinical practice. This issue’s “ten tips” are thus dedicated to the role of motivation and provide an overview of strategies to increase learner motivation.

Last but not least, the AO Program for Education and Excellence in Research (AOPEER), which was initiated by AO CID a couple of years ago, offers surgeons and researchers tools and training in all aspects of clinical research. Read more about this program and how to become an AOPEER teacher.

Thank you all for inspiring our course participants as role models and facilitators of learning. Let’s keep sharing a world of knowledge at the upcoming AOTrauma World Meeting in Madrid in April and at all other AOTrauma events around the globe.

Best wishes,
