Dear colleagues

New horizons—embracing the challenge

Both Iain and I have the joint pleasure of inviting you to enjoy this third issue of FacultyFocus, our excellent vehicle for bringing you—our faculty members worldwide—the latest AO CMF news and information.

The launch of the AO CMF Education Commission is a fantastic milestone for AO CMF: What was always envisioned has been created. It is the most critical and imperative time to have strong leadership and to focus on our education planning and strategy.  We welcome Iain McVicar and the team, Irfan Shah, Fernando Briceño, TC Lim and Gorman Louie. We look forward to this team’s strength and guidance to take on the exciting new horizons and challenges that we face in the development and continuity of education in our field.

With the entire world being forced to adapt and survive during the COVID-19 pandemic and with the necessary hiatus in our face-to-face, on-site education events, now come waves of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. We have seen this in AO CMF with the creation of the AO CMF Online Campus and now we have in front of us a tremendous influx of new ideas brought to us by you, the faculty. The new AO CMF Education Commission will have its hands full and faculty are promised an exciting journey. We will take important on-going educational projects to fruition and develop and prioritize new initiatives involving you all.

One of these initiatives is the new AO CMF offering at the AO Davos Courses 2020. An ambitious program has been put together involving over 70 faculty and you can read all about it in this issue. Also in this news-letter, get the latest feedback on how the AO CMF Online Campus is operating: This is a huge success story and we thank each and every person who has contributed so much to the AO CMF Online Campus.

2021 will see the launch of a new additional concept for the Management of Facial Trauma Course combining face to face activities, with self-directed learning and instructor-led online sessions. Read the article to get the latest facts and information!

In this issue you can learn about the AO’s Access program which was approved by the AO Foundation Board on June 24, 2020. The Access program establishes diversity, inclusion, and mentorship firmly within the AO. This further demonstrates the AO’s commitment to addressing existing inequalities to entry and advancement, and to identifying and overcoming barriers.

Additionally, many of you will be interested in our articles focusing on how to develop online educational events and how to conduct breakout sessions online. Most of us by now have experienced hundreds of online meetings and trainings. These articles provide some extra tips and tricks that will undoubtedly make your life easier.

We hope you enjoy this year’s third FacultyFocus newsletter and remember: We are always happy to hear your ideas for new article topics of interest to our faculty community. Please just drop us an e-mail at faculty@aocmf.org.

With best wishes,

Gregorio Sánchez Aniceto
Chair, AO CMF International Board

Iain McVicar
