Welcome

Editorial

Dear colleagues

The innovation and creativity right now across our global network astonishes us all. Daily we are facing change and tough conditions for ourselves, our patients, and our trainees, and yet we still seem to find the energy to introduce new ideas and maintain our enthusiasm to continue to treat and teach.

In this FacultyFocus edition, we update you on the new activities that are being created so that we can continue to be flexible and reinvent the way we educate and network across the globe during this pandemic.

In our article about AO Davos Courses, we recall the great success of 2020 and we update you on preparations for 2021.

Do not miss news on the Global Oral Oncology and Reconstruction Symposium, March 19–20, 2021. Organized in collaboration with the International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO), this event involved some of the most prominent names in the field—and you can read about it in this issue.

The Travelling Mandible will be a great event for our members and community in May. This fun and flexible approach aims to bring education and interaction to our network—particularly for our young surgeons. Take a look at the article and get your residents to sign up!

In future FacultyFocus editions, you will read more about new projects and news from Davos, Switzerland, where the AO headquarters is a hive of activity around introducing new processes and technology to make it easier for our network to communicate and to support business affairs.

Finally, we would also like to thank all those who have helped get 2021 off to a great start. We are looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you soon at a face-to-face event!

With best wishes,

Iain H McVicar
Chair, AO CMF Education Commission
