Chairperson

AOTrauma Education Commission

Welcome to this year's second edition of the FacultyFocus newsletter featuring specially selected information for your needs as AOTrauma faculty members.

In January 2018, a revised version of the AO/OTA Fracture Classification will be released. Learn about the resources that are being prepared by AO for faculty and participants to help them familiarize quickly with the changes and additions in the AO/OTA Fracture Classification.

AOTrauma Operating Room Personnel (ORP) share their experiences with the competency-based Clinical Training Modules (CTMs), a specific format of hospital-based education, which was introduced in 2015. Since then, the number of CTMs held each year has almost tripled.

Read about the changes to the competency-based AOT Basic Principles Course, which the AOTEC approved in July: the update of the course framework is based on the analysis of the available evaluation and assessment data as well as feedback on the course by participants, faculty, and chairpersons.

As AOTrauma faculty you put a lot of effort into creating an inspiring and motivating atmosphere at AOTrauma courses worldwide. In this issue, we provide you with ten tips on how to write learning objectives. Learning objectives don't just help faculty with course planning and learners with the (self-)evaluation of the learning progress, they also provide orientation for learners before the course. If the course objectives match the educational needs of the participants, this will have a motivating effect and help prepare the ground for a good learning process.

Last but not least, we would like to introduce the two new members of the AOTrauma Education Commission (AOTEC), Jonathan Monk (UK) and Michael Sirkin (US), who joined AOTEC in July. I wish them both success in their new roles and I would like to thank their predecessors Peter Brink and Roger Wilber for their dedication and contribution to the AOTEC over recent years.

In closing, I would like to thank you for all your continuous efforts as AO faculty and chairpersons maintaining the highest quality of AOTrauma courses around the world for the benefit of thousands of course participants that strive to improve their patient care each year. I am looking forward to seeing many of you in December at Davos Courses 2017.
