Welcome to the first edition of FacultyFocus!

Welcome to the first edition of our faculty newsletter, FacultyFocus! Issued quarterly, this publication is a platform for relevant, need-to-know information specially selected for AOTrauma faculty. You can expect to find information to connect you with the latest at AOTrauma Education and articles that help you develop your educator skills.

In this issue we'll take a deeper look at the latest AOTEC Chairperson elections and also share with you the changes that have resulted from the re-evaluation of the Fellowship Program. You may be surprised to learn that the stipend for fellows will from now on be adjustable according to the cost of living in host countries.

Wondering how the world of continuing medical education is evolving techniques to interact with learners? The “Flipped Classroom” concept is gaining hold in educational institutions around the world.

The AO Skills Lab—surgeons practicing hands on clinical motor skills—has been updated and will be introduced to selected Basic Principles courses starting this year. As from 2015 all Basic Principles courses (over 100 worldwide) will be taught with the Skills Lab as a core element of the curriculum. The interviews with surgeons Emanuel Gautier and Friedrich Baumgaertel shed some additional light on the benefits of this learning tool.

Finally, the Faculty Career Pathway has been reworked and we'll be giving you an overview of the path to becoming a faculty member and progressing through the faculty ranks, including useful links to share with colleagues interested in becoming AOTrauma faculty.

As you can see, this first issue is packed with interesting content and you can look forward to more just like it in the future. We encourage and look forward to your feedback. Please do not hesitate to send any input to mredies@aotrauma.org.

Enjoy!
