New e-learning module on Disclosures and Conflict of Interest

In order to ensure the transparency of AO educational events all AO faculty, speakers, authors, and presenters will be asked in the future to complete the new e-learning module on disclosures and conflict of interest.

In today's medical education, conflict of interest (COI) continues to be a topic of significant interest as well as controversy. Accreditation and regulatory guidelines require a streamlined process for managing conflict-related issues. There must be constant monitoring of the relationships that faculty develop with industry partners over time. In addition, standards for commercial support add another dimension and level of complexity.

The new online module introduces the rationale as well as the importance of addressing conflicts of interest to all faculty. It also highlights some of the requirements regarding disclosures, resolving conflicts of interest, and the impact COI issues can have on undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education students. North American, European, and global requirements (where applicable and relevant) are also discussed.

The AO Education Institute has developed this module as a part of the overall faculty development program portfolio. All members who currently serve as faculty, and those who are incoming, potential speakers, authors, or presenters, will be asked to complete the module and familiarize themselves with disclosures and COI.

You can access this eModule directly via the icon in the sidebar on the left or you can also find it in the AOTrauma Faculty Center.
