AOTrauma STaRT—
Provide your expert opinion
AOTrauma STaRT, the online learning hub for orthopedic trauma residents, wants to hear from you. Please take this opportunity to provide your expert opinion, so that we can continue to offer an award-winning educational tool.
AOTrauma STaRT (Surgical Training and Assessment for Residents) is an award-wining online learning hub that supports orthopedic trauma residents with self-paced learning to addresses the clinical scenarios residents face throughout their residency. It also provides residency program directors and supervisors with enriched, evidence-based material that is relevant to their learners.
An award-winning educational tool
Since its launch 1 year ago, AOTrauma STaRT has been recognized as an award-winning interactive learning hub for residents by three prestigious competitions, receiving a Platinum eHealthcare Leadership Award, an Outstanding Achievement Interactive Media Award, and a Silver Web Health Award. The success is due to the dedicated work of all authors involved and STaRT’s executive editors: Fred Baumgaertel (DE), Kodi Kojima (BR), James Krieg (US), and Wa'el Taha (SA).
"The aim of AOTrauma STaRT is to complement residents’ training. It was designed to address the needs of residents and improve learning using interactive case discussions, where residents can answer questions, receive immediate feedback, and compare their results with peers. As it simulates a bedside discussion, it’s very familiar to the residents. It’s a great tool for the residents to improve their knowledge."
Kodi Kojima, AOTrauma STaRT Executive Editor
Multiple learning strategies to identify gaps
AOTrauma STaRT modules are based on typical patient problems, making it easier for residents to directly apply what they learn to their daily practice. Residents appreciate the three distinct learning strategies provided, which take into account different learning styles and promote reflection:
STaRT’s modules complement formal educational offerings of certifying bodies and teaching hospitals.
"AOTrauma STaRT provides residents with up-to-date educational materials in an interactive, on-line format. It allows residents to learn orthopedic trauma from the world’s experts at the click of a mouse."
James Krieg, AOTrauma STaRT Executive Editor
Call for feedback
With its 1 year anniversary, trusted AOTrauma faculty members are now asked to visit AOTrauma STaRT, explore the offerings (video-based case discussions, quizzes, tests) provided, and leave feedback on the content and/or experience of using STaRT. This way, your feedback can be used to improve and expand over time.
" AO STaRT provides training residents with a safe learning environment in which they take control of their learning. Residents can choose the topics based on their needs and relevance in training. It is an interactive medium with the opportunity for immediate feedback. The self-assessment modules provide the resident with an immediately verifiable method to assess the outcome of the learning experience."
Wa'el Taha, AOTrauma STaRT Executive Editor
