During the week from September 28 to October 2, 2015, international AOTrauma faculty travelled to Tallin (Estonia), Kiev (Ukraine), and Istanbul (Turkey) to deliver the AOTrauma Masters Seminar—Intramedullary Nailing Roadshow delivered in collaboration with national faculty. Judging from the high number of registrations, this new pilot project driven by AOTrauma Europe has been very well received.

The course seminar follows a new format: international faculty travel to several countries to deliver focused education on one topic. This case-based format and the local convenient facilities enabled AOTrauma to provide these Masters-level seminars at relatively low cost. Without these special conditions, it would not be possible to deliver a course in these countries that can be easily-accessed by the participants at a very convenient price.

AOTrauma Europe successfully showcased a new educational format to bring Masters-level education to individual countries. For the newly developed "IM Nailing Raodshow seminars" five  international faculty members traveled to Estonia, Ukraine and Turkey where they taught in collaboration with national faculty members the latest techniques and current concepts in IM nailing.

A roadshow in Europe: bringing Masters-level education to your doorstep

"This intramedullary nailing roadshow represents a new approach to teaching AOTrauma courses in two ways: firstly, it was one of the first seminars specifically focusing on intramedullary nailing for surgical fracture fixation. And secondly, the participants did not have to travel a long distance, but the faculty came to the participants. This formula was very well received and the participants benefited greatly."

Martin Hessman, AOTrauma Masters Seminar—Intramedullary Nailing Roadshow Chairperson

Therefore, AOTrauma ensures that experienced surgeons can have access to the best education in the field, regardless of location advantages and purchasing power. In addition, the roadshow format enables the surgeons to easily participate in a high-level Masters Seminar without missing a working day and still accessing an international faculty in an environment where the exchange of information and networking opportunities are facilitated.

These Masters level AOTrauma Seminars, chaired by Martin Hessmann (Germany), addressed the current concepts and latest techniques in IM nailing for operative fracture management.  Dr Hessmann developed the seminar structure and all the cases based on the competencies and objectives of new curriculum from the AOTrauma IM Nailing Education Working Group.
