AOTrauma is pleased to announce the results of the 2016 elections for the AOTrauma International and Regional Boards, and the AOTrauma Global Commissions. Six new chairpersons have been elected to fill important AOTrauma positions. Learn more about these individuals and their goals for their terms in office in the short biographies below.

Meet the next AOTrauma ambassadors, representatives, chairpersons and pillars

Kodi Kojima will become the new chairperson elect of the AOTrauma International Board (AOTIB).

 

Kodi Kojima will become the new chairperson elect of the AOTrauma International Board (AOTIB) after the Davos Courses 2016. Dr Kojima is Chief of the Trauma Group at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. Within the AO Foundation, Dr Kojima has served as a faculty member, a member of the TK Lower Extremity Expert Group, and as a regional board member with responsibilities in research and education. He has been the AOTEC chairperson since 2011 (having been reelected in 2014). In his role as the chairperson of AOTEC he represented AOTrauma Education as a member of the AOTIB.

 

In his new role, Dr Kojima’s goal is to improve AOTrauma through intensified collaboration.

Wa'el Taha is the new chairperson elect of the AOTEC.

 

Dr Taha is a consultant of orthopedic trauma, at National Guard Health Affairs, in Madina and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is also the founder and current president of the Saudi Trauma Society. Within the AO Foundation, Dr Taha has served as a faculty member and as a representative of AOTrauma Middle East (AOTME). Additionally, he was a member of the Residents Education Taskforce and the expedition leader for curriculum development.

 

In his new role, Dr Taha plans to work with the AO community to provide patients with the best possible healthcare by providing quality education to AO surgeons and ORPs.

Juan Manuel Concha Sandoval is the new chairperson elect of the AOTrauma Latin America Board (AOTLAB).

 

Dr Concha is an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital Universitario San José in Popayán, Colombia as well as a Professor of Orthopedics at the Universidad del Cauca in Colombia. Within the AO Foundation, Dr Concha has served as a local, regional, and international faculty member and chaired several courses. He has taught at the AO Foundation Davos Courses, served as an AOTLAB member for two terms, as well as a Community Development and Fellowships delegate.

 

Dr Concha’s goal is to encourage young surgeons to get involved with AOTrauma by becoming faculty members and to keep the LATAM region in continuous development.

Matej Cimerman is the new chairperson elect of the AOTrauma Europe Board (AOTEUB).

 

Dr Cimerman is a professor of surgery and head of the Department for Traumatology at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana in Slovenia. Within the AO Foundation, Dr Cimerman has been a faculty and chaired several courses. Additionally he is a co-founder and chairman of the AO Alumni Slovenia Chapter and has been a member of the Board of Trustees. From 2009 to 2015, he was a member of the AOTEU board and member of the AOTrauma Community Development Commission. He was also a member of the AOTrauma Pelvis and Acetabulum Education Task Force.

 

Dr Cimerman’s goal is to unite AOTrauma Europe across diversities.

Muhammad Abdul Wajid is the new chairperson elect of the AOTME Board.

 

Dr Wajid is the Head of the Department of Orthopedics at Shalamar Medical and Dental College in Lahore, Pakistan. He practices in both trauma and orthopedics. His affiliation with the AO Foundation started 15 years ago. He has been active in the establishment of AOTME, and is one of its founding members. Additionally, he is the founding chair of the AOTrauma Pakistan Chapter.

 

In his new role, Dr Wajid aspires to further promote several activities in the Middle East region.

Berton Roy Moed is the new chairperson elect of the AOTrauma Research Commission (AOTRC).

 

Dr Moed is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Dr Moed has been actively engaged within the AO Foundation since he first attended the AOT Basic Principle Course in Dallas, Texas in 1981. After his two fellowship experiences in orthopedic traumatology in Toronto Canada, and then in Seattle USA, he then became an engaged faculty member in 1986.

He is the chair of the AOTrauma North America Research Committee, and an active member of the AOTRC representing North America.

 

In his new role, Dr Moed aspires to promote, both new and ongoing research initiatives throughout the regions.
