The AOTrauma Education Commission (AOTEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Fred Baumgaertel as the new AOTrauma Curriculum Development Expedition Leader (CDEL). The purpose of the CDEL role is to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment between the various AOTrauma Education Taskforces (ETFs) and Working Groups (WGs).

The CDEL reports to the AOTEC in coordination with the AOTrauma Education Manager and is in regular contact with the ETFs and WGs to offer feedback, support, and where needed guidance on strategic directions. The CDEL communicates on behalf of the ETFs and WGs during AOTEC meetings and is also available to contribute to the meetings of these groups.

Another task associated with this role is to assign incoming trigger documents to the respective ETFs to consider initiating development of an educational activity or material to address the introduction of new technologies based on clinical need. The AO Technical Commission (AOTK) creates and shares between 5–8 trigger documents with the AOTEC every year.

Wa'el Taha, current AOTEC Chairperson, who performed the CDEL tasks for the last several years, is pleased to be passing on these tasks into the capable hands of Fred Baumgaertel and looks forward to working with him in his new role. Fred has extensive experience working with the AO Foundation, eg, as a former member of the AOTrauma Residents ETF and as a Regional Education Team (RET) member.
