Dive in and read up on our exciting activities

Welcome to the second 2021 edition of FacultyFocus! We invite you to dive in and read up on a variety of AO CMF activities across our global multispecialty community.

You won’t want to miss our report on the first-ever AO CMF R&D Junior Reviewers program, which identifies, engages, mentors, and retains young talent. With guidance from AO CMF mentors, the first group of junior reviewers recently completed the inaugural program. We think you’ll be inspired by the insights of both participants and mentors in this FacultyFocus.

And while you’re here, be sure to check out our announcement about FACE AHEAD, the much-talked-about global summit that has been in the works since 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to postpone the event in 2020, but the good news is that the organizing committee has decided that FACE AHEAD will take place in Barcelona, Spain, in May 2022—with many of the superstars we originally invited in 2020.

Also exciting is the success of our first-ever Traveling Mandible 24-hour online relay event conducted May 29, 2021, across seven hubs and time zones around the world. We are proud to have organized this unique event giving the mandible the attention it deserves, and we thank the faculty who made it possible. Read about that, too, in this FacultyFocus.

I know you’re eager to start reading, so I’ll leave you with just one last thought: I appreciate your dedication—even in trying times—as faculty, and I welcome your ideas and your feedback on FacultyFocus topics. We never know where the next great idea will come from, so always feel free to reach out to us by e-mail.

Happy reading,

Iain H McVicar
Chair, AO CMF Education Commission
